Looking for an un-boring, NO cheese, full of personality & FUN photographer? Hi there! You found me.

Brisbane wedding photography – Jemy and Hiro got married

Jemy and Hiro planned their entire wedding from the other side of the world. We corresponded via email and chatted wedding plans when they inquired about Brisbane wedding photography. When I finally met Jemy and Hiro, it was the morning of their wedding. We spoke briefly the day before, just as they were boarding the plane from Japan to Australia. What a whirlwind destination wedding! They organised everything from overseas, married the day after touching down in Brisbane and will fly back to Japan on Saturday! All of this in just 5 days.

All I knew from our many emails was that Jemy and Hiro wanted the iconic Story Bridge as the backdrop for their morning wedding. And what a beautiful Brisbane morning it was. The sun kept popping out from behind the clouds, the jacaranda trees were in full bloom and as we took photos, we were lucky enough to have the Roulette jets fly over the city! After, we walked the streets of Brisbane stopping in front of some historic Queenslanders, had photos with Yellow Cabs and celebrated with a delicious lunchtime reception at Newfarm Park. Of course, if you’re visiting Brisbane and at Newfarm Park then it’s compulsory to have some photos around the historic Brisbane Powerhouse too. Such a fantastic Aussie wedding day!

Jemy and Hiro have kindly shared some of their story with me…

How did you both meet?

In the common area of a sharehouse, it was Jemy’s first day in Japan.

Any funny stories about that meeting?

Nothing particularly stood out for us on first meeting, my first impression was “Oh, a new face?”. And Jemy neither – she just thought I was a normal friendly guy.

Where did you get engaged?

At home while watching Grey’s Anatomy. Over a touching episode, I took her hand and asked her to marry me. She thought I was joking at first but it really wasn’t.
I love her and we’ve had a fun life together so far, I’m ready, we are ready.

Why did you choose Alison Cooke Photography for your Brisbane wedding photography?

We saw her work and immediately felt a connection, that time we knew we needed to have Alison for our Brisbane wedding photography.

What was the one thing you just had to have for your wedding day?

People! My girl of course! And then there’s family, friends and great people who made the wedding possible.

What things about your wedding made it so amazing?

Reunion with our family and friends, everybody made the effort to fly in from different parts of world to Brisbane to be with us.
And of course, beautiful jacarandas!

How did you go about planning your wedding & did you have any help?

Google. And advice from our celebrant, Jennifer Cram.

What tips or ideas would you pass onto future brides?

Relax and be yourself, you are marrying the love of your life so enjoy the moment.

If a destination wedding, what would be your advice to other couples?

Choose the right vendor, be optimistic and have faith in the outcome.
We’ve never been to New Farm Park and Outlook Reserve, and planning our wedding from Japan had its uncertainty and required a lot of co-ordination.
We are just glad we’ve found Jennifer as our celebrant, Alison as our Brisbane wedding photography, Rachel as our hair and makeup and our reception, See you Next Thursday. They were enthusiastic and made the process a lot smoother.

What was something unique about your wedding?

We planned the wedding ourselves without a professional planner so there are lots of “us” essence. For example Jemy’s paper flower bouquet, Hiro’s self designed tote bags, our monkey-cat toys which we think is unique.
