Looking for an un-boring, NO cheese, full of personality & FUN photographer? Hi there! You found me.

Family photos on a holiday are the perfect memento

When you’re on holidays, you always take loads of photos, right? Even if it’s just with the iPhone. You make sure to get photos of the kids, of the scenery, of the famous landmarks you visited. But what about having professional  family photos on holiday?

I received an email from Kirsten, who was bringing her husband and two young daughters out from America, to visit family in Brisbane for Christmas. Kirsten wanted to remember their Aussie family holiday and asked if I’d be available to do some family photography while they were in Brisbane.

And what a fantastic idea! We met at a nearby park on a Sunday afternoon. The park was perfect because it was filled with all the typical Aussie icons. People cooking snags on the BBQ, big old gum trees complete with kookaburras and swooping magpies. There was even a giant scrub turkey nest and mozzies. It’s not Australia without the mozzies!

Update Those Family Photos on holidays

So what better time to update those family portraits? And it’s a great way to remember that amazing Aussie holiday you went on too 🙂

Family photography doesn’t take long either! In just 1 hour you can have some gorgeous new portraits of you with your kids, you and your hubby and some super-cute photos of the kids by themselves. And it’s fun to do! Just look at these guys below. We spent a relaxed hour wandering around the park, stopping to chat, checking out the scenery and having a laugh. As for styling for your shoot, imagine you’re dressing one person. You don’t need to all wear the same colour or outfit, but at the very least, each item of clothing should complement what the other family members are wearing.

Kirsten took note of my styling guide and her family looked amazing for their family photo. And because the outfits she chose were plain and without patterns or logos, her family photographs will be stylish for a long time.

When To Have A Family Photo Shoot

The best time to have your family shoot is late afternoon. Because summer in Brisbane is HOT!  Around 4.30pm, when it finally starts to get cooler, is the best time to shoot. It’s also when we have the best lighting; it’s what we photographers call ‘golden hour’. The golden hour is the time of day just before the sun sets. It’s when daylight is golden and far less harsh than when the sun is higher in the sky. It’s our favourite time of the day!

So if you’re due to update your family photos, why not do it while you’re on holidays? You’ll certainly be relaxed and you’ll already be having loads of fun! And it’s a fantastic way to remember your family holiday. If you’d like to book a family photography session in Brisbane, please drop me an email here.
