Newborn Family Photographer North Brisbane
Confession…I am a dog lover. So I totally understand when my clients want to include their fur-baby in their newborn session. Because pets are an important part of the family, right? So when clients ask me if they can bring along their dog to include in their newborn or family shoot I’m like…HELL YES!
And seriously, how adorable are these two? Just check out newborn Arthur with his fur-sibling Vixen. Vixen was quite the show-off and was more than happy to pose for the camera.
Inside Session or Outside
Of course, if you’re planning on including your pet in the family photo, a studio shoot may not be the best choice. But there are many fantastic outdoor locations that are dog friendly and just a short walk or drive from my north Brisbane studio in Lawnton. What type of family session you want, I’m happy to help you organise the perfect shoot and location for your family.

What To Wear For Your Family Portrait
Most clients plan their family shoot in advance so there’s plenty of time to go shopping. And who doesn’t love an excuse to update the wardrobe? When buying your outfits it’s best to avoid patterns, logos or bright designs. That way your family portrait will stay in-fashion longer. And it doesn’t need to be expensive. Even just some plain t-shirts or dresses from Kmart in a range of pastels, greys, browns and blues can look fabulous. Just think plain, simple, affordable and timeless. And you can always dress your outfit up with some funky jewelry or scarves.
Timing Is Everything
Now think about the seasons. Summer is hot and bright, so late afternoon is best for that family portrait. However in winter, the days are shorter and cooler so you’ll need to dress warm and shoot earlier. And then in autumn you have a myriad of colours from the trees and leaves on the ground which are so pretty! The seasons will influence you wear and your colour choices. But whatever season you choose, your family portrait should be in the hour or so before the sun sets. This is what we photographers call golden hour because we have the beautiful golden light. So have a think about what you’ll wear and what season you’d prefer. Because the time of year can make a huge difference to your family portrait.
