Newborn Photography North Brisbane

Every now and then you hear someone’s story and feel compelled to do something; anything that might make their life a little brighter. This was how I met Kylie and Wayne. A mutual friend told me Kylie was 26 weeks pregnant and for the past three weeks had been hospitalised with a high-risk pregnancy. Consequently an opportunity to have maternity photos seemed impossible. Never one to back away from a challenge, I decided I would gift Kylie a maternity session; even if it had to be in hospital.

Kylie and Wayne’s road to parenthood had been rough. In 2013 they lost their son Colton at just 19 weeks and now their little girl, Eden Grace, was threatening to make an early entrance into the world.

I made plans to visit Kylie and photograph her growing belly in the safety of the hospital environment however, their little girl had other ideas. Little Eden was not growing and her fetal movement was decreasing and at just 29 weeks and 5 days Kylie went into labour. Eden arrived on the 26th of May weighing just 1305 grams and spent the next two days in the Neonatal intensive Care Unit.

So our planned maternity shoot turned into a newborn session in the Special Care unit of the hospital. Thankfully Eden was doing very well; she was strong and healthy and breathing on her own. I felt very privileged to visit her in her first few days on this earth.Kylie and Wayne kept me regularly updated with Eden’s progress. We arranged to have a newborn session in my Brisbane studio when Eden left hospital as a way of celebrating bringing their baby girl home. Finally, after 70 days in hospital and weighing a healthy 6lbs Eden left hospital. Although she still requires regular check-ups, her future is bright.

So a week ago Kylie and Wayne arrived for Eden’s newborn session. Kylie had one request…LOTS of colour and pink! They also brought along some special items of their own to incorporate into Eden’s photos. Kylie and Wayne are both country people with a love of horses so their boots were included in the session. But most importantly Kylie and Wayne brought along a framed photo of Colton and his special bear so Eden’s big brother could be part of this very special newborn session.

Congratulations Kylie and Wayne on your beautiful daughter Eden. I look forward to photographing Eden again as she grows into a happy, mischievous toddler and I thank you for sharing your very rocky road to parenthood with me. I wish you all a bright, happy and beautiful future together.

Much love,
Alison
