Why Photographs?
For example, last year my son turned 18. As per usual, we put together a slideshow for him. The first 5 years of his life was shot on film. I remember how I’d race to the chemist and get the film developed. And I always ordered two sets! Because I’d always give the extra copies to his grandparents.
Who remembers that? You’d get a second set for an extra $5. And I waited DAYS to get them back! Oh, the sheer agony of waiting for my photos! But I had so much fun looking through his albums. Sure, I had to pull them out and scan them, but honestly, it was way more fun than trolling through all my hard-drives for photos of the remaining 13 years of his life.
But I’m one of the lucky ones. I’ve always treasured photography and the memories those photographs stir-up when we look back on them are priceless. Not just for me, but for our children too. I’ve photographed everything over the years and I literally have thousands of images.
One day I’ll make a photo book for the kids so they too can look through their albums and relive their childhood. And that alone is a priceless gift.
