Newborn Photography North Brisbane
A few years ago I photographed Dave and Miki’s wedding. So when they emailed to tell me they were expecting a baby, I was super excited! Not long after, baby Taiga arrived, they booked me in for a newborn photography session in my north Brisbane studio.
Baby Taiga was such a dream! And what a gorgeous head full of hair! I’m such a sucker for babies with hair, probably because both my children were completely bald. Seriously, they had heads like little fuzzy peaches. In fact, my daughter was 2 years old before her hair was even noticeable.
But newborn photography is such a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of your baby and to document your transition from a married couple into family life.
If you’ve ever wondered what a typical newborn photography session looks like, keep on scrolling.
*warning* Cute baby photos coming! And look at his hair!
There are many styles of newborn photography. For example, there’s lifestyle photography which take place in home and are completely natural. These sessions are gorgeous, particualrly if you want to stay home in your pyjamas! Honestly, you’ll get no judgement from me.
You can view a sample of lifestyle photos here.
However, in the studio it’s all about posed newborn photography. It’s about cuddling baby, wrapping them in cute fabrics, popping on hair ties and hats, and putting them in cute bowls and baskets. I have a variety of props for you to choose from so before your newborn photography Brisbane session, we’ll discuss your favourite props and colours.
What if baby won’t settle? -Awake newborn photos
Many parents worry their newborn baby won’t sleep for photos. And while I’m yet to meet a little baby who I can’t settle, there’s no need to stress! I’ll give you guidance on how best to prepare for your newborn photography Brisbane so we can capture those sleepy poses of your new baby.
And if your newborn baby has superpowers and resists my magical soothing charm, well, we’ll just photograph your baby awake. The awake photos are often the ones parents love the most as they show the many funny and varied facial expressions of your baby.
Although newborn sessions are ideal when baby is up to 21 days old because it’s when they’re sleepiest, don’t panic if your baby is a little older. I’ve photographed babies of all ages and awake babies are just as fun to photograph as sleeping ones.
The Newborn Photography North Brisbane Experience
How long does a newborn session take? Well, most newborn sessions last anywhere between 1.5 hours to 3 hours but it all depends on how settled your newborn baby is. But it’s important to allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, settling and cuddling baby.
After we’ve captured family photos of your with your baby, you can kick-back on the couch, grab a magazine, watch TV and relax while I photograph your baby.
Or, as many parents have done, curl-up and go to sleep.
Again, no judgement from me!
Can we bring the kids?
Yes, of course! Older siblings are always welcome to be a part of the newborn photography session. After all, a new baby is just as exciting for the siblings. However, because toddlers have the attention span of a flea, we do the family photos first. That way, the kids don’t get too cranky or bored and they can go off with Dad or Grandma (or anyone who can wrangle your kids) for morning tea at a local cafe or park.
How much is the newborn photography session?
A newborn photography north Brisbane session is $125 for a 3 hour session. And while these sessions are optimal when newborns are up to 14 days old, I’ve photographed babies up to 7 weeks old. So don’t panic if you feel you’ve missed your opportunity for newborn photos.
All babies are beautiful and I can capture beautiful photographs of your baby at any age!
Can I bring along Grandma’s crocheted blanket?
Yes, of course you can! Many parents like to include family heirlooms or sentimental items. You’re welcome to bring along any special items to include in your baby’s photos.
But don’t worry if you haven’t anything to bring as I have lots of props and outfits for your newborn. My north Brisbane studio is filled with cute props, blankets and wraps for you to choose from.
