When Mel and Michael were planning their wedding, they were searching for unusual wedding venues in Brisbane. And they came across this awesome little place for their ceremony and reception called Vielle Branche. This super-funky venue is tucked away in the Brisbane suburb of Albion. And it’s full of vintage, retro and quirky memorabilia. As well as its very own garden which makes it the perfect place for a wedding. Keeping to their own style, Mel and Michael arrived at the unusual wedding venue together and then we set-off to do some fun, funky photos together before they married.

And this got me to thinking about all the weird and wonderful places I’ve visited when photographing weddings. So I thought I’d compile a list of some of the most unusual venues I’ve visited while photographing weddings.
Cloudland, Fortitude Valley – Funky Wedding Venues in Brisbane
Cloudland in Fortitude Valley is definitely one of the most unusual wedding venues in Brisbane. If you’re after a wedding venue that’s different from the rest, then you can’t go past this one. Cloudland offers enchantment and a luxury experience for all couples. This unusual venue features a waterfall, indoor gardens, love seats and sparkling chandeliers. It also has a bar made from a million glass balls, which is super-cool for photos! And it doubles as a nightclub so you and your guests can hit the town after your wedding reception. The Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm
The Brisbane Powerhouse is not only a popular spot for wedding photos, it’s also a really cool venue for your wedding and reception. This distinct landmark is located in New Farm and its architecture is urban grunge meets industrial. The funky brick walls make a very unusual, yet fabulous backdrop for your wedding photos. And the Powerhouse offers private rooms for your reception and a deck overlooking the Brisbane River for your wedding ceremony. The State Library of Queensland
Another unusual wedding venue is the State Library Queensland. Located in South Brisbane, it’s right next door to South Bank, which offers a variety of eateries, restaurants and photo opportunities for your wedding day. Inside the State Library you’ll find some very cool locations to capture some wedding photos that are unusual yet beautiful. Tattersalls Club
Tattersalls Club is a heritage-listed club house, located at 206 Edward Street, Brisbane. It was designed by Hall and Prentice and built from 1925 to 1949. Needless to say, this heritage style building makes a an interesting backdrop for your ceremony and wedding photos. And if you’re lucky, your wedding photographer will capture some funky night shots for you too. Bar Pacino – Unusual Wedding Venues – Brisbane
Another great spot for your wedding reception is Bar Pacino. And located along Eagle Street Pier, it offers great food, entertainment and some really unusual spots for wedding photography with a difference. Old Government House
Old Government House is located at Gardens Point, in the grounds of the Queensland University of Technology. The building was the first important architectural work undertaken by the newly formed Government of Queensland. Its sandstone walls make for a very cool backdrop for all your wedding photos and if the walls aren’t your thing, take a stroll to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens just next door. Ovolo Inchcolm Hotel – Unusual Wedding Venues – Brisbane
The Ovolo Inchcolm Hotel is an uber-funky hotel and is perfect if you’re after some unusual wedding photos. It’s described as eclectic, sophisticated and curious and takes on a rock n roll design. It’s located on Wickham Terrace in Brisbane. It was built in the 1930’s and was once a private residence and medical practices. Its website says the following about the hotel:

1889 Enoteca Italian Restaurant
This fabulous little Italian restaurant in Woolloongabba is perfect if you’re after an intimate wedding and reception or just something a little different from the norm. 1889 Enoteca is part of the heritage listed Moreton Rubber Works building and is located in the antique quarter of Woolloongabba. The owners have incorporated a funky basement cellar room for private dining and functions for up to 42 people.

Lightspace – An Unusual and Funky Warehouse Venue
Lightspace is a perfect wedding venue for those seeking something a little different in Brisbane. It’s a very funky mix of raw industrial and cool warehouse features. The unique design has made Lightspace an amazing venue for weddings, engagements and functions. There’s also a variety of places to capture some photos with a difference; from outside the venue or inside the venue. Wherever you choose, your wedding photos will be AMAZING! The All Inn Brewery
The All Inn Brewery was definitely one of the most unusual venues I’ve visited for a wedding! But it was super-cool and lots of fun! Located in Banyo, the brewery offers a range of boutique beers and ciders. It also offers live music, quiz nights and a range of fun events each week. And it made a really fun location for a wedding reception. Even if you’re just a lover of beer, you need to check out this place!
